Open Intellect The Open Source Lab at Oregon State University exists to help accelerate the adoption of open source software across the globe and aid the community that develops and uses it. The OSL's students and full-time staff do this by focusing on software development as well as hosting the world's largest open source projects.

Creative Stimulus Imaginify attended a Caltech lecture by Steven Johnson back in November 2004 and asked him some questions about Creative Commons, Free Culture and Open Source... Straight from BoingBoing via Lessig's blog: On April 7th 2005, the NY Public Library presented a conversation by Larry Lessig and Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, moderated by Steven Johnson, author of such books as Everything Bad is Good For You.

Creative Stimulus Freesound is a huge collaborative database of sounds - not songs or compositions - but sounds: audio snippets, samples, recordings, bleeps. All sounds uploaded to the site must be licensed under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus license.

The Music Technology Group and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, have created The Freesound Project
which provides new and interesting ways of accessing these samples...
* Browse the sounds in new ways using keywords, a "sounds-like" type of browsing and more
* Up/Download sounds to and from the database, under the same creative commons license
* Interact with fellow sound-artists!

Open Intellect Freevo is a media platform that brings together various applications for video recording and playback. Under its open format, the user can fully customize Freevo to suit their media viewing needs. Because Freevo is on an open platform, users can create plugins that do things TiVo and other PVRs cannot... Its main feature is its ability to schedule and record television broadcasts.

Community Thrivability Founded in 1999, Common Vision is a solution focused non profit organization. Common Visions mission is to cultivate awareness and respect for the Earth and to generate social and environmental changes towards sustainable lifestyles.

Common Vision and the Nomadic Institute
commonvision.org | Blog | Video

Our organization does this through four branches of focus,
education, restoration of degraded lands, direct action, and
documentation of those projects and other projects for positive change.

We integrate concepts of ecology with the traditions, music, and art of cultures
that live or have lived in harmony with the Earth.

Creative Stimulus From Slashdot.org, "From the people who gave you the Internet Archive comes Ourmedia, a place for grassroots media to flourish. Upload anything, maybe a video, some pictures, your custom applescript, and it gets hosted for free, for life. Drupal is hosting the site, and the Internet Archive is providing hosting and bandwidth for the files." The site is very bogged down right now, so be patient...

Awareness Research There are some new Codes emerging in the cyber-blogo-terrain... Google Code, Google's place for Open Source software. And Lawrence Lessig's Code v.2 (published in late 2005), the now-traditional view of the Internet as an uncontrollable, organic entity on its head, and explores the architecture and social systems that are changing every day and taming the frontier. Coders have already started their engines, now it is time to ramp up the community to new heights.

Emerging Systems Nikola Tesla, the father of today's AC electrical system and other key inventions, often failed to bring his visionary ideas to real-world fruition. By W. Bernard Carlson. When members of the Chicago Commercial Club arrived to hear a lecture by the famed electrical inventor Nikola Tesla on May 13, 1899, they were startled by the sight of an artificial lake sitting in the middle of the auditorium. Everyone knew that Tesla--the man who had devised the alternating-current (AC) system that brought electricity into people's homes and businesses--was a master showman.

From an Open Source Magazine to Evolutionary Media to a Rewards Card, and Back?

From the EvolverProject, "It is no longer about knowing what is wrong. It is about becoming what is right. It is about integrating logic and heart, vision and will. It is about making life juicier by making good ideas real. A new world is springing up around us, of visionary politics and liberating hacks, earthly communities and galactic highs ... "new news" ... focusing on active solutions, helpful products, new social movements, and do-it-yourself designs ... open-source group-mind and creative meta-media, designed to creatively and quickly respond to our rapidly changing times ... a model for a passionate planetary culture, one jacked up on collaboration, connection, and exuberant renewal."

To Reality Sandwich, "a web magazine for this time of intense transformation. Our subjects run the gamut from sustainability to shamanism, alternate realities to alternative energy, remixing media to re-imagining community, holistic healing techniques to the promise and perils of new technologies. We hope to spark debate and engagement by offering a forum for voices ranging from the ecologically pragmatic to the wildly visionary (which, to our delight, sometimes turn out to be the one and the same). Counteracting the doom-and-gloom of the daily news, Reality Sandwich is a platform for voices conveying a different vision of the transformations we face. Our goal is to inspire psychic evolution and a kind of earth alchemy." UPDATED!

Awareness Research "Intellectual property is the incentive system for the products of the future." -Microsoft 2005. OR how about a different alternative? From the Stream of Consciosness of Fen; "OpenPrivacy is the first open platform that enables user control over personal data". For individuals, "an i-name is a universal private address. A single unified lifetime address that only you control, so it never has to change no matter how many times you move, change jobs, change email addresses..." And now is there a co-intellgent dialogue in, out and around this issue?
